I learnt that lesson from @evelynfromtheinternets and I think, being Irish, it’s particularly important. We have a culture here of ‘the sneer’ & looking down on people who might ‘get notions’. We’re very, very quick to knock those trying. I can’t tell you how many times in life I’ve had to listen to someone caterwaul at me, “But shur WHY’d ya want ta be doing DAT?!”
If you’re not from a creative background, if no one in your family or circle of friends makes their money from art or what have you… couple that with the sneer, it can make everything 10x harder.
But, as I hold my book, I’m so glad I stubbornly persevered.
Never ever, ever be afraid to be seen trying x
